The WIS 175 southbound exit ramp to Frederick Miller Way is open to traffic. An additional lane has been added to accommodate detoured traffic expected during future ramp closures in the area.
Region Director Bob Gutierrez participated in a community-led Design Charrette for the future 26th Street Bridge area. WisDOT heard from neighbors and business leaders about their vision for the area.
Thanks to the hundreds of Veterans Administration staff and patients who stopped to talk with us when we had our model and project information on display at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center.
This rendered image shows WisDOT's redesigned concept for the Stadium Interchange, which includes a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). I-94 travels over WIS 175/Brewers Boulevard, and the highest point of the DDI matches the existing interchange elevation. Find detailed design here.
Built in the early 1960s, the underlying physical condition of I-94 is declining. Bridge conditions have deteriorated from age, heavier-than-expected traffic, road salt and freeze-thaw cycles.
The project will have no adverse effect on historic properties or archaeological resources. Alternatives were designed to stay within existing right-of-way as much as possible to minimize the impact on historic properties and archaeological resources adjacent to I-94.
Project Overview
The Interstate 94 (I-94) East-West project is underway, with construction beginning in late 2025. The project covers approximately 3.5 miles of I-94 between 70th Street and 16th Street in Milwaukee County and includes the Stadium Interchange and five local/service interchanges. As part of the larger I-94 corridor, it connects the major federal and state investments at the Marquette Interchange and the Zoo Interchange.
After many years of study and public outreach, the I-94 East-West corridor was divided into a number of projects, with some in final design and other projects under construction. Learn more about how this project will modernize the corridor by improving safety, replacing aging infrastructure and reducing congestion.
The Environmental and Alternatives analysis phase concentrates on developing and refining alternatives to improve the freeway corridor while also considering how the project could benefit or impact the surrounding built and natural environment. The design phase includes refining and finalizing plans and specifications; appraising and acquiring real estate; finalizing cost estimates; planning and coordinating traffic management and incident response with local municipalities, law enforcement, and emergency responders. Construction of utilities and roadways is the most visible phase with construction itself, plus behind the scenes work on contracting, safety, and coordination with local stakeholders.
